King Abdullah Bin
Abdulaziz mosque has been established in the
main hall of King Abdullah University for
Science & Technology at the city of Thowal,
that is eighty (80) kilometers from Jeddah.
The mosque represents an Islamic lighthouse
in the heart of the university. Its location
has been carefully chosen on the banks of a
watercourse channel founded specifically to
connect the lake to the red sea shore, a
location which granted the mosque a very
unique site.
Total space of the
mosque is approximately 10,000 square meters
with a capacity to hold 1,500 people.
The main body of the
mosque is comprised of reinforced concrete.
From the architectural point of view, the
mosque is a masterpiece as it consists of:
-
A number of 6
large domes in the main hall with 14
meters diameter and 26 meters height.
-
A number of 23
small domes distributed all over the
mosque.
-
The main entrance
is a group of concrete clusters with 10
meters height.
-
Ablution building
is also an architectural masterpiece,
taking an octagonal shape with a
concrete dome of 15 meters height.
Building the mosque
site required construction of a huge
concrete support wall in order to protect
the mosque from sea water. The overall
building and construction process of the
site has been carried out using the most
advanced technologies, most sophisticated
construction equipment, and most
professional manpower.Building the mosque
